Deaf. The sounds we take for granted are sounds that go unperceived by the deaf. For those who lack the sense of sound, the luxury of early warning is usually not available. Safe Without Sound, Inc. is committed to making alerting devices, especially smoke detectors, available to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. For the hearing community, a smoke detector is a mere $10 purchase at your local hardware store. For the Deaf, it is often more than $200! In the majority of cases they are the ones who can least afford them. To adequately alert the Deaf with the same degree of protection a simple $10 device for the hearing, you must have a device that provides visual and tactile alerts. These systems are available but most often unaffordable. For this reason, Safe Without Sound, Inc. offers a “Smoke Detectors for the Deaf” program. We are providing Deaf/Hard of Hearing compatible alerting systems, free in most cases, to those who can least afford them. |
